Review: Four-Scored (Needle and Leaf #2) by Andrew D Meredith

March 8, 2023 by Jordan Leave a Comment

Rating: 8/10

Blurb:

Jovan made his deal, ensuring Leaf would have a normal life. But Leaf is anything but normal, and the magic pouring from him draws the attention of a sinister vedmak coven, bent on increasing their power.

Jovan’s rage, long hidden in his carefully curated calm, reawakens with each threat to Leaf’s life – but now his Rage has a voice.

Amidst a harvest of new friends, and rumors of war, Four-Scored is a rich tale of found family and the road that binds travelers together.

Four-Scored is the second book in the Needle and Leaf series.

Review:

Andrew Meredith is a master of world building. Add intriguing characters and unique plots adds up to novels that readers will love for years to come. There is so much heart and care poured out into each word that is carefully placed into the novel. Once again we are on a journey with the return of two beloved characters, now believing they are free. It was great to be with the father and son relationship that is so carefully crafted and really calls out to me. It is a great addition to their story of what could come from this incredible world.

Once again the strength of this novel is the world that is so carefully crafted. Each branch of the story just adding another layer of unique storytelling that will lead to the knowledge of why the characters act in the manner in which they do. It is subtle and not in the face of just shoving information down the throat, continually telling the story. The one thing that became a little overwhelming were the longer and complex names of some of the characters. I continually had to refer to some notes for some of the characters to make sure that I could keep them straight in my mind.

I count myself as a fan of the type of storytelling that is present in these and other books by this author. It continually reminds me of authors of old, even Tolkien, with the amount of love that is shown in these worlds. It is a breath of fresh air to find clean stories that are incredibly detailed and fascinating. I know that I will look forward to all of the future installments that will be in store, even with Jovan and Leaf. There is more to the mystery after all.

Thank you for taking the time to read my review. As always, happy reading and Stay Great!!
