In book three of the Rockin’ Fairy Tales series of Fairy Tale/Shakespeare mashups, The Little Mermaid meets The Tempest in a fantasy romance where fated mates, second chances, and a supernatural love triangle determine the destiny of all.
Rai Cloud, a once promising singer, faces the loss of his record company and his career until one fateful night a mystery woman saves him from a stormy sea and sings him back to life. The voice of his elusive rescuer must be the missing piece to reignite his musical gifts. If only he could find her!
Before Tani Emerson’s spirit can cross over to the afterlife, the Sea Witch, Sulaa Kylock, intercedes to offer Tani a bargain to earn a way back to the living and reunite with her first true love, Rai Cloud.
Tani must now succeed in challenges set forth by the Sea Witch. In spirit form, she’s charged with convincing Rai she’s not merely an illusion and they will be granted a second chance at love.
Harder still is the need to sabotage the steamy romance brewing between Rai and Azure Tempesta, a sweet and sexy singer from the popular musical act, The Mermaids, who inspires Rai to make the music he thought only his mystery savior could awaken.

Character Q&A
Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Rai: I’m Rai Cloud, twenty-five-year-old singer and songwriter who won the “You’ve Got A Gift,” singing competition a few years back. My single hit “Fire Capped Waves,” got me some traction, but I never cashed in on it. I’m obsessed with creating my own brand of music I call Island Rock that incorporates the influence of the natural sounds of Lalale Island where I was raised on an artist’s commune.
Azure: I’m Azure Tempesta, the twenty-five-year-old youngest of seven sisters who make up the singing group, “The Mermaids.” I live in Miaqua, an underwater research station turned into a trippy concert venue. Some people call my mother, Sulaa, a sea witch. No comment.
What music do you listen to?
Rai: I’m always on the lookout for rock with its own distinct signature that sets it apart from a top ten sound.
Azure: I’m into offbeat ballads that work with multi-part harmonies.
What are 3 items you can’t live without?
Rai: Azure, the artist’s commune on Lalale Island, and Azure, Azure, Azure..
Azure: The singing group I’m in with my sisters, “The Mermaids,” the sea, and Rai Cloud.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what is one thing you’d like to have with you?
Rai: I’m cheating, one category–three items. I couldn’t be without the three talisman’s that are woven into my triple braids: a moonstone that represents my affinity for the moon, a small wooden whistle which is the first instrument my parents gave me, and an abalone chip from the first dive I went on with my brother, Piyo.
Azure: You didn’t say it had to be real, so I choose a magic mirror to talk to my sisters.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Rai: Recycled songs that have no original vibe – lazy songwriting peeps.
Azure: People disrespecting the sea and the creatures who call it home.
What do you do in your free time?
Rai: I’m into natural island workouts with runs through the sand, climbing trees, lifting rocks. Napping is high on my list too.
Azure: I love hanging out with my sisters when we’re not stuck in rehearsals. They’re all so creative and funny. My sister Lapis makes these amazing abalone guitars.
What makes you want to get out of bed in the morning?
Rai: Searching the island for natural object to turn into instruments, and every minute I can spend with Azure.
Azure: The prospect of a long, peaceful, underwater swim in the warm current that runs around my home.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Rai: See the unseen. Sense the unknown. Suspend the common belief.
Azure: Love is worth the fight.
What do you carry in your bag?
Rai: My cell. I usually ignore it, but I have a fear of not being in touch with people when they need me.
Azure: The iridescent oval scales that allow me to spend time on the surface.
What’s your favorite animal?
Rai: My man, Kitae, an island fox I nursed back to health after a fire. If you meet him, guard your feet. Dude’s a heel nipper.
Azure: I have the greatest respect for the grace and wisdom of sea turtles.
What do you think about [other MC(s)]?
Rai: Azure is the most enchanting woman I’ve ever met, a person with secrets I’m dying to learn. I’m fascinating with her affinity for the natural world.
Azure: Rai is worth breaking all the rules for. He conjures this ethereal synergy with the island through his music. Singing with him is its own brand of magic, and he’s beyond sexy.
Do you have favorite saying?
Rai: Oh, moon.
Azure: I love that Rai uses my name in his lyrics: Wild Azure Waves-so I pick that.
What is your favorite holiday?
Rai: I love celebrating the spring equinox, welcoming the light half of the year.
Azure: It’s not an official holiday, but my sisters and I invented one called “Sisteria.” It’s in the middle of summer where we laugh go a little crazy and celebrate being in each other’s lives.
If you could go anywhere in [the book’s world], where would you go and why?
Rai: The Moon’s Eye lighthouse on Lalale Island. It’s a great place for romance and the views of the sea are amazing.
Azure: I want to swim in the seas around every island on Earth. There are so many wonders beneath the surface that so few people ever get to experience.
What do you do to relax?
Rai: Chilling out on my hammock strung between the two palms on the shore of the lagoon.
Azure: Swimming through underwater flower gardens.
What is your favorite food?
Rai: The paella my mom made every Sunday. I wish I’d let her teach me how to make it.
Azure: A salad with tropical fruits, especially if there’s one I’ve never tasted before.
What is your favorite season?
Rai: Summer. I hate to be cold.
Azure: Summer. I can’t get enough of sunlight.
How would you define happiness?
Rai: Watching the sunrise with someone you love.
Azure: Knowing the people I love are happy and well cared for.
What are you passionate about?
Rai: Music and Azure
Azure: Music, Rai, and my sisters
How do you feel about your government?
Rai: I hope for a day when politicians wake up and give arts the importance and funding they deserve.
Azure: Government gives me an icky vibe. It seems to be filled with more people that want to fight each other instead of trying to make the world a better place.
If you could change one thing about [the book’s world], what would it be?
Rai: I’d obliterate any obligation or limitation that sucks the joy out of life.
Azure: Dark magic would cease to exist.
What’s your biggest secret?
Rai: I yearn to find the woman who saved me from an angry sea.
Azure: Well, it may or may not involve a tail.
What do you hate?
Rai: It sucks that I haven’t figured out how to save Cloudpath Music, the company that meant so much to my folks.
Azure: It’s awful when my parents use the gift of their magic to hurt others.
What’s your biggest fear?
Rai: Failing the people who care about me.
Azure: Not being able to breathe.
What do you think your best quality is?
Rai: I’m pretty chill most of the time. It takes a lot to make me angry.
Azure: Patience. I come from a family with a lot of anger issues, so I work very hard to be a calm person.
How would you describe the world you live in?
Rai: The world outside Lalale Island totally overwhelms me.
Azure: Endless and wonderful.
