Blurb:
In a future where the human race has split into three species, the mentally-evolved Illuminatos have conquered the other two in a brutal Evolutionary War. Now, the seven most powerful Illuminatos, the Council, control the Earth, ruling over the other two human species through violent oppression.
As one of the defeated physically-evolved Corporis, Samara lost everything: her family, her freedom, and her will to fight. But when her master, Lord Wyatt Faraday, commands her to find the mysterious leader of the Resistance, Tristan, everything she thought she knew is challenged.
Tristan is an Illuminatos who has turned his back on his own kind to follow his principles. An idealist hoping to restore peace and equality for all species, he cannot escape his past, and it may force him to make a terrible choice.
Their meeting will change the world, but will it be for the better?

Review:
Disclaimer: This review is my own personal experience with the book. It does not represent the overall views of Team Escapist. Same goes with the score.
The Drift is a read that took me by surprise. I enjoyed the overall story and the characters that are introduced within. It starts off with a bang and continues to expand on a world that has had some conflict in the past that has created a world with interesting dynamics. It did take a little bit to really understand some of the dynamics, but it doesn’t distract from the overall story as it is enhanced as time progresses.
The strength of the novel are the characters. The two main characters are well thought out and have a connection that isn’t forced. I will say that about halfway, it’s another story within a story where the characters really come to life, but it does feel like it jolted out of the story for a little bit. It later comes into play in a good way but it was a little jarring to be immersed in a separate story line. The magic is good but focuses on a couple elements a lot with some of the other items thrown in. The action scenes are really really good.
This is a book that is a lot different than what I would typically read but it was an enjoyable one. The romantic plot is a strong plot point through the novel and it is done well, letting it naturally come. The action scenes took me by surprise and were extremely fun to read. An entertaining good read full of heart and characters that are trying to survive in an oppressive world. The book is well written and fans of sci fi romance will definitely find this a great read.
Thank you for taking the time to read my review. As always, happy reading and Stay Great!!
