Enter the Nine Lands of the Mountain Fell.
Skye has only ever known pain and solitude since waking up with neither memories or magic. Hunted for being a Ruler in a time when they are scarce, she has survived in the wilds near the Rim, always on the run from the rest of her kind. Only starvation could draw her close to a village, but when a chance encounter and a bit of bad luck launch her into the arms of a man whose soul is bonded to hers, hiding who she is may no longer be possible.
Ilyas is a hunted man. Wanted for killing the last High Queen of Vine, he is plagued by his past of wholesale slaughter. He never wanted another Queen, and certainly not a half-feral, distrustful girl who gave up on the Fae a long time ago. Unfortunately, Soulbonds are not so easily walked away from, no matter how hard they both may want to, especially when trapped together in a cave with a pack of Feral Fae right outside.
With long-held enmities breaking out between the besieged villagers and all their lives on the line, Ilyas and Skye must learn to work together and trust each other if they want to survive.

Character Q&A
Could you please introduce yourself to our readers?
Ilyas of Vine.
What music do you listen to?
When I can settle my mind enough to listen to music and enjoy it, I would enjoy more soothing tones. The steady beats of a weak drum, the strumming of the harp and the viola. The closest equivalent the people of your Lands might understand would be something called … Lo-fi.
What are 3 items you can’t live without?
Do all of my weapons in Elsewhere count as one item or multiple? If not, my knives, my copy of The Complete Essays of the First Oaken Sage, and my wings.
If you were stranded on a deserted island, what is one thing you’d like to have with you?
A warrior of Vine would never be stranded anywhere. We can fly.
What is your biggest pet peeve?
… I feel like Skye is trying to make me … as she calls it, ‘grumpy – grr’ at you, but anything that involves taking from another. Whether it’s their belongings or their agency.
What do you do in your free time?
Read and practice with my weapons.
What makes you want to get out of bed in the morning?
Right now, the knowledge that if I don’t, Skye will probably trip over her own two feet and fall right into a rampaging Bearkin.
What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
“If you know you’re right, and the only path forward is to make the entire Fell hate you, then you raise your bow, take aim, and let your arrow fly. In the end, it’s you that you’ll have to face when you pass on, what does the rest matter?” It was one of the harshest lessons Asherah taught me when she was training me.
What do you carry in your bag?
Bag? The closest equivalent would be my Elsewhere, an other-worldly space created by my Essence where I store my belongings. Within my Elsewhere is always a suit of armor, a small armory of various weapons, emergency supplies, and a first aid kit.
What’s your favorite animal?
I would not call any of the Fair Folk an animal, but the Tzitzi are my favorite creatures. The feathered serpents that fly throughout Vine.
What do you think about [other MC(s)]?
Skye is as frustrating as she is beautiful, irritating as she is compassionate, and as wily as she is foolish.
Do you have favorite saying?
Bad luck is like a storm; it is in how you choose to face it that determines if it breaks you.
What is your favorite holiday?
… … Holidays are for celebrating. I have very few things to celebrate.
If you could go anywhere in [the book’s world], where would you go and why?
Not quite close enough to the Rim for the Lands to become chaotic and Void-touched, but far enough from people that I can be alone with Skye, though I guess my other Bond-Brothers and Sisters can join us.
What do you do to relax?
Read.
What is your favorite food?
I am a fan of charcuterie boards. The mix of meats, cheeses and fruits that are not always the same reminds me of the battlefield. Just, without the screams of the dying.
What is your favorite season?
Fall, wars tend to die down at that time.
How would you define happiness?
It is a challenge to answer that question. It has been roughly forty years since I felt anything akin to happiness. The fleeting, pleasant feelings I get when Skye smiles is the closest I can think of.
What are you passionate about?
Ensuring that none suffer as I have.
How do you feel about your government?
All of it can burn. So far, Skye has been the only Faerie Queen I have met that I would consider following, though it has taken the Soulbond to force me to see it.
If you could change one thing about [the book’s world], what would it be?
I would remove High Queen Ysala of Lichen and her Ring from the Mountain Fell before they could come to power.
What’s your biggest secret?
That I hear the voice of the High Queen I murdered, breaking an Earthbond and the Faerie Oath to protect her, tormenting me every chance I get.
What do you hate?
The caste of Faerie Kings and Queens for what High Queen Maevian Oriset had done to me, in particular the ruling Queen of Lichen and her Ring for letting her pet Keeper torture and eat Asherah of Vine.
What’s your biggest fear?
What Skye will do when she learns just how much of a monster I am.
What do you think your best quality is?
What might have been my best qualities were carved from my hide by the Mad Queen. Now, I think it might be my ability to put up with Skye’s shenanigans.
How would you describe the world you live in?
Wild, unpredictable. Life flourishes and death is easy to come by. It is the job of the Faeries of Vine to protect the Mountain Fell from the monsters of the Void, and every day I see the Lands become more vibrant is a day that I know we have done our job well.
About the Authors

Allegra grew up in a small village in northern Tuscany as the daughter of two artists. She was raised on the works of J.R.R Tolkien, C.S. Lewis, Phillip Pullman, Frank Herbert, and many others, all read aloud to her while she drew and played make-believe. She began to write at the age of eight and hasn’t stopped since.
After many moves and dozens of countries visited, she now lives in a cozy cottage in Western PA. She is accompanied in her current adventures by husband Job, co-conspirator and long-time writing partner Tobias, and a small army of furry and scaly pets. When not writing or daydreaming, Allegra rules her kitchen with an iron first and feeds everyone who walks through her door. She also gardens, dabbles in various art forms, and spins stories for her tabletop gaming group.
As a disabled woman and staunch LGBTQ ally, Allegra hopes to write engaging, diverse, and representative Fantasy and Science Fiction, where people who do not often see themselves center stage get the chance to shine.
Her debut book, Where Shadows Lie, was an SPFBO Semi-Finalist and is a CIBA award finalist. It is the first book of The Last Gift series, and the first title of Project Ao, by Ao Collective Publishing. Other titles in Project Ao include NACL: Eye of the Storm (2021 SPFBO Semi-Finalist) and A Bond of Thread.
