Blurb:
It starts with a rift that burns a thousand scars into the sky.
It makes the winds stop.
It makes the stars go dark.
It awakens an ancient beast.
And with it, a new reign of blood.
It is the Summoning.
And at the heart of it is fire.
When the Summoner’s army blazes through her village, Dove is forced into hiding. Torn from everything she knows, she begins training in the elements with only one goal in mind: to find her brother. She just needs to get past the Summoner’s army—but how can she slay a dragon that is already dead?
Review:
Burn Red Skies is an intriguing and interesting novel. With a variety of magic and battles, this book flies. The strength of this novel is the character work that exists within its pages. There were many times I didn’t know which character I wanted to know about more. The way that they all come together is beautifully done but also leaves it open for the future books to come.
The author has chosen more of an immersive style, meaning that the plot of the book is developed slowly, allowing the reader to be enveloped in the story and discover it as the characters do. The magic system that is introduced is very intriguing and I look forward to learning more in future additions to this series.
Overall, I really enjoyed the book. I was never bored and found myself continually wanting to return to the pages to learn more of the characters. The action is intense, heart thumping and great. This is a book that many fantasy readers will enjoy and become seriously invested in. This is one that should be read.
Warmed me up nicely to pick this one up
